The Zebra Nerite Snail (Neritina natalensis) is a beautiful and functional snail species that adapts excellently to aquarium environments. It originally comes from South Africa, and among its many patterns, the most well-known is the variant with a base color ranging from yellow to golden brown, decorated with black stripes or zigzag patterns.

The Zebra Snail measures around 4-5 cm, which is ideal for most aquariums. It is particularly effective in combating algae, eagerly consuming green and brown algae, making it a valuable member of any planted aquarium. The Zebra Snail does not harm plants so that it can be safely kept in aquariums densely planted with vegetation.

The Zebra Snail lays eggs, but these eggs do not hatch in freshwater, so there is no need to worry about unwanted overpopulation. This snail coexists well with fish, shrimp, and other snails, but it is important not to keep them with snail-eating fish.

An ideal aquarium environment for keeping the zebra snail is a minimum of 30 liters, with a water temperature between 22-26 °C, a pH value between 6-8.5, and a water hardness between 7-20 NK°. Although their diet mainly consists of algae, we can also provide them with fish or other plant-based food.

The Zebra Snail is a peaceful and visually pleasing snail species that maintains the cleanliness and colorfulness of aquariums. It is an excellent choice for those looking for a decorative yet practical inhabitant for their aquarium.
